We are always looking for new and improved ways to look after ourselves and our health, whether it be with exercise or an eating plan, or joining the gym to tuck and trim. No matter the method, there’s always the same goal in mind. Keep track and keep healthy.
Why Do We Want to Be Healthy?
It seems a simple enough question, but the answers aren’t always what we expect to hear. Depending on the age group or demographic you pose the question too, you see the shift in priorities for people.
Younger generations are looking for that picture-perfect physic, while middle-age tend to want to hold on to their youth for as long as possible.
The grandads and grandmas do not worry really to try to be looking young or gorgeous, they aim rather to still be active. Be able to move up and down stairs still without a chair lift-although those do look cool to try out-and to be able to live longer to enjoy the most of their grandkids.
What Does It Mean to Be Healthy?
According to literal definitions such as this https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/healthy, it would mean to have no illness or disease. But if you read further it’s so much more than that, the activeness, the action, and certainly the benefits.
If striving to be a healthier person means that for the future, we spend more time making memories, then sign me up. I love a good memory maker.
3 Simple Ways to Be Healthier
Mind Over Matter
Having a positive mental attitude towards things can for sure bring on good vibes. I’m a testament to this, I never believe I am or will be ill, and I can count on my hand the number of times I have been. Unlike my negative Nancy husband who just sees someone ill and suddenly feels something coming on. Can you queue the rolling eyes emoji, please?
Diet
It’s true, eating vegetables and a session of physical activity does help. Besides, breaking a sweat boosts happy hormone, let’s all have a booster session at least once a week.
Sleep
Aah, the pleasure of such a luxury in a house with kids. If you can send them to a friend’s house or the grandparents, do it, and go to bed at 8 pm. You need a decent night’s sleep to keep up the immune system and the anti-crankiness mode.
How to Track Your Health?
If the blood is flowing and it has enough oxygen, then you are on the right track. We can have tests done at the doctor’s surgery, or for convenience they now have DIY kits you can use at home and monitor if you feel anything strange.
You can measure the amount of oxygen by using what’s known as a pulse oximeter. This clips on your fingertip much like a peg and sends wavelengths that bounce back with the levels of oxygen you have flowing like a river through you.
These compact machines are increasingly popular. Check out the reasons why from company sties like the Industry Leading Fingertip Pulse Oximeters-Masimo Personal Health, and get your health kick-started.
My husband has this machine, and if it puts his mind at ease, it puts my mind too. He hasn’t ever had anything to worry about, but knowing the test is simple and quick, and in a conveniently sized package, makes the process easy and efficient.
Like the garage, we have a first aid cabinet with all sorts of testing gadgets, from blood pressure to temperature to good old plasters.
But if it means we don’t lose sight of what’s important, which is being healthy for ourselves and our family, then I say the more the merrier.
