This lockdown has been like a shining light on some businesses. Now CEOs can look out over their workforce and see who is really pulling their weight. You will have noticed no doubt, who your stars are and who needs a little whipping into shape. Employees are incredibly valuable to any company, but you have to remember you’re their leader, not their daycare teacher.
You’re not here to babysit people, you’re here to lead them to brighter and better days. So you must show your best employees that they are noticed and you will always reward hard work. By doing so, you also make the ones who aren’t doing as much as they should, that if they tried harder they too would be rewarded.
A Shout-Out
Something as simple as stopping in the middle of a meeting to give a shout-out to your best employees goes a long way. It’s almost like a break in the normal corporate structure of the day, to stand up and acknowledge how awesome someone has been. Look directly at the person you want to thank, walk over to them, make eye contact and shake their hand in full gratitude. Give them a round of applause so the whole room full of employees joins in and gives them praise. It’s a big boost in morale for them and everybody else sits up and pays attention to their own faults without them being made public. It’s a great psychological tool.
Invite Them to Lunch
It’s always been an honor to sit at the captain’s table when you go on a cruise ship. This is something you can extend to your best employees, but do so at work. You can make it a public announcement in a meeting or just tap them on the shoulder and ask them to join you for some lunch. During the lunch meeting, you should tell them how you have been following their progress and speak highly of their work ethic. Many Wall Street and corporate executives who take junior upper management employees under their wing, usually go to a restaurant or lunchtime hangout where there’s a reservation. Do something like this, make a deal out of it and not just, hanging out in your office.
Fun and Grounded
Leaders find it so difficult to connect with the common man and woman because their own lives are filled with having to deal with a different class of people. CEOs needing to reward employees who have worked hard, may find that something fun and grounded like a turkey gift for the holidays goes a long way. Take a look at this, if you have any questions about a butterball gift check. The gift certificate can be for turkey or ham, but the famous Butterball brand has some awesome turkeys that the whole family can enjoy.
Leadership during a tough time such as the current lockdown situation can be the difference between employees jumping ship and sticking it out with you. Make a big deal of rewarding those who work hard and you set a great example for others to follow.
