It’s very common for just about everyone to end up feeling as though their lives have somehow become a bit “stuck” or even “stagnant” at some point or another.
When this kind of feeling hits, it could be reflective of something like dissatisfaction and uncertainty in your job, or a sense that, even though you’re achieving your goals, they aren’t making you feel the way you wanted them to.
While there are various things that you could do in order to take action in your life and “make things happen” quickly, ranging from finding ways to sell your house fast, to giving in your notice at work, it can be useful to focus on things that can help to give you a bit of insight.
Here are some things to try when you’re feeling stuck in life.
Shift Your Perspective
One of the really terrible things that tends to happen whenever we are feeling stuck, is that we can easily end up getting caught in thought loops, trying endlessly to reason, calculate, or imagine the path to a different situation.
The problem is that your thoughts and hypotheses will always be, at best, and a “map” of the terrain you’re heading into or want to head into – and no map is ever an accurate replica of the territory itself.
The bottom line is that to really shift your perspective, you need to actively put yourself in different situations, and try different things. You need to take action and accumulate more hands-on experience, in other words, as opposed to just trying to “figure out” the solution.
Solutions will likely come to as you start doing things – almost regardless of what it is you’re putting your energy into.
Consider Whether You Are Looking for Fulfilment in the Wrong Ways
Certain thinkers have drawn a distinction between two different ways that people have of conducting themselves in the world – a “being” mode, and a “having” mode. We need both of these “modes” in order to conduct ourselves in the world, but there are some important differences between them, and very often people end up operating in the wrong mode when looking for fulfilment, or a particular outcome.
Things like happiness, love, and fulfilment are states of “being”. Achieving these things requires a shift in perspective, and a difference in how you relate to situations in the present moment. But if you’re trying to achieve these things by making consumer purchases, or working tirelessly for the next promotion, you’re likely making a misstep.
Enter a Flow State and Feel a Sense of Enthusiasm
If you’re feeling stuck, it might be a very good idea to spend more time on things that cause you to enter a “flow state” on a regular basis, and that you feel a sense of enthusiasm towards.
While these two things won’t necessarily solve all your problems, they can certainly do a lot in terms of giving you energy and momentum, and maybe also a fresh and upbeat viewpoint.
