The spring-cleaning time is nearly upon us and you need to prepare for it. Did you know that clutter in your personal space actually affects your physical and mental health? Decluttering should be your highest priority, which means you’ll have to get rid of a lot of stuff.
Do you find it hard to do it?
I’ve been there and know how one might get sentimental when cleaning. But with your and your family’s health literally at stake, you need to be ruthless.
And before you start talking about how throwing things out is a waste, remember that you don’t have to send those things to the landfill. You can donate them, organize a garage sale, or simply give them away posting notices on social media and websites like Craigslist.
What Exactly Should You Get Rid of During a Spring-Clean?
Deciding what exactly classifies as clutter is often the hardest part of decluttering. If this is your problem now, here’s what you should look out for when choosing which items to remove from your home:
#1: All Papers That Aren’t Valuable Books or Printables
That stack of old bills and forgotten newspapers has to go and so is all paperwork that’s backed up digitally and has no real value.
#2: Decorations That Don’t Bring You Joy
That vase might be a perfect fit for the interior, but if it makes you cringe every time you see it, get rid of it!
#3: Everything That Doesn’t Fit
If you can’t find a place for it, the chances are that you don’t really need the item. If you are really attached, move it to the garage first. If after a couple of months you haven’t used it even once, donate!
#4: Jars, Bottles, and Boxes
Cosmetics, cleaning supplies, and all other stuff that’s taking space in your bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room. Go over all those containers and sort them out. How many of them are already expired? How many only have dregs left at the bottom?
This seemingly simple step will make a huge difference for any home.
