Launching a new website can seem like a lot of work. So much so, that when you’re looking to start a business, or you have a great idea of a content site, it can actually stop you from getting started!
You may worry that you don’t know enough about website. Or that you have no idea what kind of technology you need to have in place. Or, even that you’re just not smart enough to do it. But you are. Because it’s possible for anyone to launch a website if this is what they really want to do. Sure, coding can seem really hard and you may think that you need to be able to a whizz with computers to do it – but you don’t!
Most of the time, you’re going to find that it’s actually your fears that are holding you back from starting a business that you really love! So you may make up in your mind just how complicated it is to get started. Or how hard it will be. And eventually, you talk yourself out of just starting altogether. And this is what you really need to avoid. So, instead, you’re going to want to think about what you actually need, and need to do, to get a website up and running. You’ll find that it’s way easier than you may imagine!
An Idea
The very first thing here, is that you need to have some kind of idea about what you’re trying to do. For some, this is the start. And it’s the idea that fuels them to begin. However, for you, it could be more about knowing that you want to start a business and make a difference, but you’re not sure how or what you want to do. So before you start creating anything, you need to have that idea.
A Vision
When you do know what you want to do, you then need to have a vision of what it’s going to look like. Think about the colors you want to use, along with the kind of fonts or overall look of the site. If you can have something in mind, it’s usually much easier for you to create.
Technology
And, of course, you then also need to have the technology you need to start. Ideally a laptop or some kind of computer. And yes, you can use your old tech that you already have to do this. You will want to ensure that your business’s IT needs are met, but you can look to invest more in the future. At first, you just need something reliable that you can work on.
A Website Builder
Now, a lot of the time, you’re going to find that you can get a basic website set up all by yourself. You do not have to spend a lot of money on web development and designers. With so many website building services around, you can create something yourself. And then, as you get further down the line and things take off, you’ll find that you’re then able to invest in something a bit more advanced.
A Name & Domain
The next thing is to firm up the name of your business or website. And while it can be anything, you might want to make sure that it’s a name that is easy to spell or find online. Not only that, but if you want to be professional, you may want to buy a domain name for your website too. And if you’re doing that, you need to make sure that your business name’s domain is available. This can often determine what you go with.
Content
When you’re all set up, the next thing you need is content. So think about what you want to say, what pages – like an about, contact, or informational pages, you need. Maybe even a blog too. When you’ve worked out what you need, you’ll want to write them and get them all upload to the site. And there you have it – your own website.
Drive
And finally, it’s also incredibly important for you to just get started. Don’t worry so much about what you’re doing, don’t try to make it perfect. Done is better than perfect, remember that. So just pt something out there. As long as it represents the business you’re trying to build, you’re off to a great start. And you are going to learn and improve over time too. But you have to have the drive to consistently work on your site and put stuff out into the world!
